As a child, I would stand on a chair, looking over Grandma's shoulder as she baked her secret recipe cookies, sweet breads and cakes. As she faithfully watched her 1950s vintage oven bake her creations, the kitchen was always filled with the aroma of sugar and butter. Little did she know that when she put little pieces of dough in my tiny hands, she would inspire the love of baking in me...
17 years later, I had moved to California, went to college and began careers in the financial, then in the fashion industry. Unexpectedly it was my last trip back home, 4 years ago, when Grandma got the whole family together, like the old times, to bake what recipes she could remember, and my baking fingers came alive and rekindled my passion for baking. Grandma was always an amazing talent when it came to anything in the kitchen. Everything her hands touched were visually, and tastefully perfect. And no one could duplicate it. She was a tour-de-force in the kitchen, goal of perfection, the quintessential home-maker. She could have been the Martha Stewart of her time. While she was a beautiful and loving Grandma, she also dedicated her life and energy to bringing her best to the kitchen and to her family.
Inspired by Grandma, my childhood, a family tradition, love for food and of course, a mighty-sweet tooth, I started Sugarie Bake Shop. My dream is to share with you simple and unfussy bakes that make your tastebuds dance. Presentations that warm the hearts and bring joy.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me.
